So it is moronic to question sacrosanct budgets items? If you ever doubted that science is a sacred alter to this blog, look no further than this post. All budget items should be scrutinized, including the military, foreign bases, social security, everything.

So there is a congressman whose sits on the science and tech committee. He doesn't sit on the committees dealing with soc. sec or the military. His purview isn't that broad, but he does have input into Sci Tech, so of course he is going to target NSF for scrutiny. That is his job!

I just checked the you-cut agenda, and the NSF is not the first target. It is rather buried at end of the main site:

It is moronic to expect a Joe Schmoe off the street to be able to judge the merit of scientific grants, yes.

And by the way, the said congressman in charge of science and technology has zero background in either, according to his public biography. He is from Nebraska, which is apparently the Republican forefront in both :-)...
