Not unusual. On June 8, 1967, Israeli fighter jets attacked the U.S.S. Liberty, an unarmed Navy intelligence vessel, off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula. 34 crew members died and 171 were injured as Israeli jets straffed the vessel and Israeli torpedo boats machine-gunned men in lifeboats. President Johnson then accepted the Israeli explanation that they had believed the ship to be a much smaller Egyptian horse trawler, and the affair was put to rest. If the U.S. is not going to mount a significant investigation when one of its own vessels is torpedo'ed and machine-gunned by the Israelis, it most certainly isn't going to do so when it was just some wogs that were the victims.
